Cincinnati's advance is halted by Nebraska due to a closing-minutes interception
In the highly anticipated season opener for both teams, Nebraska emerged victorious over Cincinnati with a final score of 20-17. The game was a closely contested battle throughout the night, with both teams relying on methodical approaches to move the ball.
Scott Satterfield, the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats, led his team during the match. Despite the loss, Sorsby, Cincinnati's running back, put up a valiant effort. He led the team in rushing, amassing 96 yards on 13 attempts, and scored both of Cincinnati's touchdowns in the second half, both on rushing attempts.
However, Nebraska's secondary successfully limited Sorsby's passing in the first half, holding him to just 20 yards. Sorsby finished the game with 69 passing yards, completing 13 of 25 passes.
Nebraska's quarterback, Dylan Raiola, had a standout performance. He threw for 243 yards, completed 33 of his 42 passes, and scored two touchdowns. Nyziah Hunter was Raiola's favourite target, catching six passes for 65 yards and scoring a touchdown. Emmett Johnson had the most receptions for Nebraska, with seven.
Cincinnati did not run a single play in the red zone in the first half. However, they made a comeback in the second half, taking two drives all the way to the end zone for touchdowns, covering 57 and 75 yards respectively.
The game took an exciting turn with 34 seconds remaining, as Malcolm Hartzog Jr. made an acrobatic one-hand interception in the end zone to seal the win for Nebraska.
Under Satterfield, Cincinnati's record now stands at 8-17. This loss marks six straight defeats for the Bearcats, dating back to last season. The team will look to bounce back in their next game.
