City Center Robbery Averted in Worringer Square: Bystanders Intervene, Police Apprehend Suspect with Butterfly Knife
In a swift turn of events, the Düsseldorf police have apprehended the initial suspect involved in the armed robbery that took place at Worringer Platz on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
The incident occurred at around 22:40, when a 37-year-old woman from Düsseldorf was approached by a man wielding an open butterfly knife. The man demanded cash from the victim, but was quickly intervened by nearby witnesses who managed to pull the woman away from the suspect.
The suspect, a 30-year-old Moroccan man known to the police and identified as homeless, fled the scene but was apprehended by the police in the vicinity. A butterfly knife was found near the suspect, which is believed to have been the weapon used in the robbery.
The victim, who reported the incident shortly after it occurred, was not harmed during the incident. The suspect was presented to a judge today, and the judge ordered him to be held in custody.
