The city of Dormagen celebrated its volunteers in a grand event held on August 31, 2025, at Kulturhof Knechtsteden. Over 500 volunteers were invited to the reception, as the city administration aimed to strengthen civic engagement and community spirit.

Mayor Erik Lierenfeld welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for their commitment. In his address, Lierenfeld emphasized the importance of volunteering in Dormagen, stating that it is highly valued in the city. He also highlighted the expansion of Senior Lunch Tables throughout the city, where seniors have the opportunity to have lunch once a week and engage in conversation in ten districts.

The BrotZeit NRW project, which provides a free breakfast for children at three elementary schools daily, was also highlighted as a new volunteer initiative. This project is part of the city's efforts to ensure no child goes hungry and to promote a sense of community.

The Stadtbad- and Transport Company (SVGD) supported the event, and the TSV Bayer Dormagen e.V. was present at the reception, distributing free tickets for the next home game of the handball second division team. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Jürgen "Archie" Deneke, who performed as Udo Lindenberg, and Michael Singendonk, who provided the musical program.

A large drone image of all guests and organizers was taken during the event, and a photo gallery of the event is available at www.our website/photo gallery. Information booths were set up at the event, offering opportunities to learn about additional volunteering possibilities.

Bernd Gellrich from the Diakonie and Martin Voigt from Currenta attended the reception, showing their support for the volunteers and the community spirit in Dormagen. Many Dormagen residents consider helpfulness as part of their identity, according to Lierenfeld, and this event was a testament to that.

The city administration hosted the Volunteer Reception 2025 as a way to recognise and appreciate the efforts of its volunteers, and to encourage more people to get involved in their community. It was a night of celebration, camaraderie, and a renewed commitment to volunteerism in Dormagen.
