City Lights and Parking Arrangements: Citybahn's Passage through Meiningen
In the heart of Thuringia, Germany, the charming city of Meiningen comes alive in 2025 with a unique way to explore its vibrant festivals and attractions. The City Train serves as a "red thread" weaving together various experiences, from Park Worlds to the Theater Festival, Steam Locomotive Days, Antique and Flea Market, Fire Department Festival, and more.
Jump aboard this nostalgic train journey and discover Meiningen like never before. The City Train travels along Ludwig-Chronegk-Straße and across Georgstraße, continuing towards the Theater via Neu Ulmer-Straße and Bernhardstraße. The tour passes through the picturesque Klostergasse, offering glimpses of the city's rich history and architecture.
As the train rolls along, guests are transported into the festival atmosphere, with each stop marked and served approximately every 30 minutes. Announcements at the stops should be noted on respective event days to ensure a seamless experience. The tour concludes at the Steam Locomotive Experience World, where the Steam Locomotive Days are held.
Tickets for adults cost just 3 euros, while children can ride for 1 euro. Each ticket is valid for the entire round trip or any section until exit. On Sundays, the Theater Festival takes place at the Theater, while on Saturdays, the City Train makes a detour to the Elisabeth-Schumacher-Straße for the Fire Department Festival.
Visitors can walk from the Klostergasse to the Schlossplatz and the Park Worlds, or disembark at the market square to explore the Antique and Flea Market. The special train trips (Sonderfahrten) through Meiningen on September 6 and 7, 2025, are organised by the Meininger Dampflokverein (Meiningen Steam Locomotive Club) together with the Dampflokwerk Meiningen and the Dampflok-Erlebniswelt as part of the 28th Dampfloktagen event.
