City Modernization Agenda
On May 10, 2025, the city of Detmold will play host to the Urban Development Day, a free event that aims to foster dialogue and participation in the transformation of urban spaces. This event is part of the nationwide motto "Lively Places. Strong Communities."
Mayor Frank Hilker, a strong advocate for urban development, plans to realise more projects of this kind in the future. One such initiative is the implementation of housing cooperatives based on the "Detmold Model", a solution for affordable, modern housing. Klaus Zimmermann, who plans the realisation of further projects similar to the "Detmold-Modell", intends to establish contact with the new Federal Minister for Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote these initiatives.
The day's programme offers a variety of activities. From 2 PM, children can participate in a scavenger hunt through the old town, while experts on urban development, old building renovation, and development prospects will be available for discussions at Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße from 6 PM.
The guided tour through the former Britensiedlung takes place at 3 PM, offering insights into how urban development affects neighborhoods. Cornelia Müller-Hisje will lead this tour, providing background information about renovated buildings with funding. A construction site tour focusing on the sustainable development of a central urban space will also be available.
The tour ends with a small snack, providing an opportunity for attendees to network and discuss the day's events. In addition, an evening exchange with experts will take place, offering further opportunities for dialogue and learning.
Detmold's city portal offers a 360-degree virtual tour of the Urban Development Day events, allowing those unable to attend in person to still engage with the day's activities. The Urban Development Day promises to be an informative and engaging event, with a focus on creating lively places and strong communities.
At the end of the scavenger hunt, a surprise awaits at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, where games and fun are offered by the "Heimspiel OWL" team. With all events free of charge and taking place between 2 PM and 8 PM, the Urban Development Day is an event not to be missed for those interested in urban development and community building.
