City of Detmold exults in European festivities
Detmold, Germany, is gearing up for a week of European celebrations from May 3rd to 11th, 2025. The event series, titled UN-Ltd. - for a democratic, borderless Europe, promises an exciting lineup of discussions, lectures, performances, and exhibitions.

On May 3rd, the youth theater Karambolage from Zeitz will perform "Emil and the Detectives" at the Leopoldinum at 5 pm. This marks the beginning of a series of events that will culminate in the official Europe celebration on May 10th, 2025, within the framework of the district festival in Heiligenkirchen at 5:45 pm.
On May 7th, the traditional European concert of the Detmold city gymnasium will take place at the Martin-Luther-Kirche at 7:30 pm. That same evening, Dr. Alessandro Bellardita will give a lecture titled "True Crime Democracy - How our constitution came about" at the canteen of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Berufskolleg.
On May 8th, Prof. Dr. Arnd Bauerkaemper will deliver a lecture titled "May 8th, 1945 - Consequences and Interpretations in the Two German States" in the small festival hall of the city hall.
The highlight of the week, however, is the discussion event on May 9th, 2025, during the Europatage in Detmold. Dr. Justus Schönlau, a renowned German social scientist and expert in political science, will participate in this event.
Moreover, the popular European market will take place at the Rosental-Galerie on May 10th, 2025, from 10 am to 1 pm.
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of its twinning with Zeitz, Detmold will host various events throughout the week. Additionally, an exhibition titled "Women in Divided Germany" will be opened at the town hall on May 9th, 2025, and can be seen until May 26th, 2025.
The European Days 2025 are supported by the state initiative Europe Checks of the Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International and Media, and Head of the State Chancellery of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Nathanael Liminski.
