City officials offer Ukrainian Youth an enriching week-long holiday experience
In a heartwarming display of international solidarity, 15 children and teenagers from the Ukrainian territorial community of Bajkiwzi near Ternopil spent a week of vacation in Dormagen, Germany. The vacation, made possible by donations from many Dormagen citizens, was financed by the Dormagen municipality and the social organization Falken.
The week-long program, organised by the city's department of children, youth, family, and school, was filled with enriching activities. The group, accompanied by two supervisors and supported by an interpreter, embarked on city tours, visited zoos, and participated in ceramic and acrylic painting sessions at the VHS studio. They also enjoyed group cooking and waffle baking sessions.
A highlight of the program was the visit to the Norbert Gymnasium Knechtsteden, where the group had the opportunity to meet with Ukrainian students and stay at the Raphaelshaus. This marked the conclusion of the program.
The group also made a stop in Krakow on Thursday, September 4, before returning home on Wednesday, September 3. During their stay in Dormagen, they were accommodated at the Hotel Ragusa on the market square.
Mayor Lierenfeld expressed his happiness at welcoming the children and teenagers to Dormagen. The ages of the children ranged from 7 to 16. The week was filled with memorable experiences, including a reception at the town hall with Mayor Erik Lierenfeld and a barbecue and games afternoon at the children and youth center Hackenbroich.
This initiative serves as a testament to the power of community spirit and cross-cultural exchange, providing these young Ukrainian children with unforgettable memories and experiences.
