Coach Hoeneß discusses the national team:

In a candid discussion on the 30th anniversary show "Doppelpass" on Sport1, Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of FC Bayern Munich, expressed his continued support for Julian Nagelsmann as the coach of the German national football team.

The recent loss of the German national team to Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers, with a score of 0:2, has raised concerns among football enthusiasts. However, Hoeneß remained optimistic, stating that he would rather lose the first game than the last.

Despite the setback, Hoeneß did not express any immediate plans for changes in the coaching staff. He emphasized his belief in Nagelsmann's long-term potential as the coach for the German national team.

Hoeneß urged a focus on the basics for the German national team, suggesting that there should be more discussion about football in Germany and less about transfers.

Stefan Effenberg, a Sport1 expert, shared concerns about the recent losing streak of the German national team, which includes the loss to Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers and losses in the Nations League final tournament against Portugal and France.

It is worth noting that Julian Nagelsmann took over the position as the coach of the German national team in September 2023 and led the team for UEFA EURO 2024 and beyond. His contract as the former Bayern coach has been extended until 2028, beyond the 2026 World Cup.

Hoeneß warned against discussing the World Cup or even the title, stating that Germany could potentially win, but it's not the current situation. He advised the team to focus on improving their game and revisiting the basics of football.

The German national team's World Cup qualifier match took place in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Thursday evening. Despite the loss, Hoeneß and Nagelsmann remain optimistic about the team's future prospects.
