Collaboration Between Local Government and City Administration in Social Work
In the picturesque city of Aschaffenburg, TH Aschaffenburg has announced a new course of study: Social Work. This programme, set to begin in October, aims to train the next generation of social workers, providing them with valuable insights into the operations of city offices related to social services and family matters.
The city administration has stepped forward as a key partner in this endeavour, offering practical experiences to students as part of their course. The focus areas of this social pedagogical work include street work, youth social work in schools, child protection, stationary youth welfare, leisure activities for children and young people, offers for seniors, and counseling in the areas of youth, family, people with disabilities, self-help, homelessness, care, or over-indebtedness.
Students will gain hands-on experience by working with the Office for Children, Youth and Family, as well as the Office for Social Services, both within the city of Aschaffenburg. TH Aschaffenburg has also established cooperation agreements with local organisations such as the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) district association Aschaffenburg and the Caritas association Aschaffenburg-city and district e.V.
By the application deadline of July 15, a total of 231 prospective students had applied for the course. The city of Aschaffenburg will offer internship places for these students, although no specific duration or structure of these practical experiences was provided.
It's worth noting that TH Aschaffenburg also has a cooperation with the Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen e.V. Aschaffenburg (Social Service of Catholic Women Association in Aschaffenburg), another practical partner not explicitly mentioned in the text.
Mayor Jürgen Herzing expressed his support for this new study programme, stating that it is an important step for the future regional recruitment of specialists in social work. He emphasised that the city is proud to be a location where students can gain practical experience for the "Social Work" course at TH Aschaffenburg.
In conclusion, the new "Social Work" course at TH Aschaffenburg offers an exciting opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the field, working closely with the city administration and local organisations to make a difference in the lives of the city's residents.
