Colliding with a wall whilst under the influence of alcohol

In Mechernich, Germany, a car accident occurred on Hauserbachstraße in the district of Mechernich-Eiserfey on August 16th at 9:10 PM. The incident involved a 72-year-old driver from Mechernich.

According to reports, the driver was traveling from Mechernich-Weyer towards Mechernich-Vussem when the accident occurred. The driver swerved too far to the right to avoid an oncoming vehicle, resulting in a collision with a riverbed wall.

The Mechernich resident was injured in the accident and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. A blood sample was taken from the resident at the hospital. The driver's license of the Mechernich resident was confiscated due to a blood alcohol level of 2.84‰ and a positive amphetamine test.

A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a reading of 2.84 per mil, and a subsequent drug test confirmed the presence of amphetamines. The vehicle of the Mechernich resident was secured at the scene.

The accident investigation detected a strong smell of alcohol on the driver. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
