Collision between two buses in Afghanistan leaves 79 people dead
In a tragic incident on the Herat-Kabul highway, a bus carrying Afghans expelled from Iran was involved in a fatal accident, leaving at least 79 people dead. The bus was transporting Afghan refugees who were being expelled from Iran and were on their way to Kabul.
The bus crash, which occurred 30 minutes outside the city of Herat, involved a motorcycle and a truck. The vehicle caught fire after the accident, resulting in a charred metal skeleton remaining at the crash site.
The Afghan government has expressed deep concern over the incident and has urged transportation authorities to provide accurate information about the accident and identify the responsible party. As of Wednesday, 17 children were among the deceased.
Herat, a key border province of Afghanistan, is currently hosting tens of thousands of deported migrants from Iran. The high number of traffic accidents in the country is often attributed to poor infrastructure and drivers not following rules.
Video footage from the scene shows bright flames engulfing the bus and a fire truck trying to douse the flames. The incident has once again highlighted the need for improved road safety measures in Afghanistan.
The Afghan government has extended its condolences to the families of the victims and has promised to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. The search results do not provide the name of the person responsible for leading the deported Afghans from Iran or the current location of this group.
As the death toll from the crash stands at 79, the Afghan community mourns the loss of innocent lives. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by refugees and the importance of safe and humane transportation for those displaced from their homes.
