Traffic Accident in Lübeck: Bus-Passat Collision Leaves Several Passengers Injured
A traffic accident involving a city bus and a VW Passat occurred on August 27, 2025, at the Holstentor in Lübeck. According to the Police Directorate Lübeck, the incident resulted in injuries to eight passengers of the bus, with one woman being taken to the hospital with suspected severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
The city bus was travelling on the right lane towards the city center with a green traffic light. Unfortunately, despite immediate emergency braking, the bus driver could not prevent a collision with the Passat that suddenly changed lanes. Remarkably, neither the driver of the VW Passat, his passenger, nor the bus driver were injured in the accident.
The driver of the VW Passat, a 75-year-old man from Leipzig, was driving a grey VW Passat. The investigation reveals that the Passat illegally crossed a solid line from the left to the right lane at Holstentorbrucke. As a result, seven passengers of the bus were slightly injured.
The police have initiated an investigation against the driver of the VW Passat on suspicion of multiple cases of negligent bodily harm and violations of the rules on the use of lanes. The total material damage from the traffic accident has not yet been determined.
Several ambulance crews were on site to treat the injured. The Lübeck police department is encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Police Directorate Lübeck Press Office. Ulli Fritz Gerlach, the Press Spokesperson, can be reached at the phone number 0451 / 131-2006, fax number 0451 / 131 - 2019, or via email at [email protected].
The road was reopened at around 18:50 after the accident investigation and treatment of the injured. Both the bus and the Passat were still roadworthy after the accident.
