Collision on A3 highway in Regensburg: Driver performs hazardous lane switch and flees the scene
A traffic accident occurred on the A3 highway between the Regensburg-Ost and Burgweinting exits around 8 a.m. The accident took place in the left lane, causing traffic to be rerouted past the accident site using two lanes after the closure.
According to the Regensburg Traffic Police Inspectorate, a 35-year-old woman was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident. The accident apparently occurred due to an unknown driver who changed from the middle to the left lane without paying attention to traffic. This careless maneuver forced the 35-year-old woman to brake abruptly, resulting in a collision with the median barrier and the right guardrail.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. However, the woman's vehicle brushed against another car during the collision. The total property damage to the vehicles is estimated at around 60,000 euros.
The suspected driver at fault left the scene unnoticed, and the Regensburg Traffic Police Inspectorate is seeking information about the fleeing vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact 0941/506-2921.
The Regensburg Professional Fire Department and the Neutraubling Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene to ensure the safety of all parties involved and to manage the aftermath of the accident. Traffic was fully restored on the Nuremberg-bound lane after approximately 15 minutes.
The Regensburg Traffic Police Inspectorate urges all drivers to exercise caution and pay attention to traffic while driving, as reckless behavior can lead to serious accidents and potentially cause harm to others.
