In the heart of Washington, D.C., the Krewe of Pyros, a traditional Mardi Gras organisation with roots deeply embedded in Louisiana, continues to stand strong, 20 years after Hurricane Katrina left an indelible mark on its members.

Under the leadership of President Cleve Davis, the Krewe of Pyros reflects on the impact of the devastating storm that struck New Orleans in 2005. Many of its members were in the city during the hurricane, an event that still lingers as a painful memory.

The Krewe of Pyros, however, is not just a group of survivors. They are a community that aims to heal and serve, a mission that has only grown stronger over the years. Lytaria "Cuba" Walker, the Executive Director of the Krewe of Pyros, stated that the organisation is now capable of assisting in any storm.

Among the grief, there is also hope among the members. Cleve Davis, when reflecting on Hurricane Katrina, says two words immediately come to mind: loss and love. This duality encapsulates the spirit of the Krewe of Pyros - a symbol of resilience that held firm even as the levees broke in New Orleans.

Founded in 2014, the Krewe of Pyros in Washington has evolved and grown in its capabilities. They are focused on community service, supporting others, and promoting policies to prevent disasters. Their efforts strive to prevent another tragedy like Hurricane Katrina from occurring.

Recently, during their anniversary event, the Krewe of Pyros acknowledged their progress 10 years after their founding. The event included a memorial service for Hurricane Katrina, but also served as an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. On the storm's 20th anniversary, the members gathered to reflect and pray.

The Krewe of Pyros brings all things Louisiana to D.C., keeping alive the spirit and culture of their home state. Their work is a testament to the power of community, resilience, and hope in the face of adversity. Despite the pain from Hurricane Katrina still lingering, the Krewe of Pyros maintains hope for the future.
