Tesla Kicks Off Model Y Deliveries in China, Ahead of Schedule

In an exciting development, Tesla has officially started delivering the new Model Y in China, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer. The deliveries commenced on Wednesday, with the timeline moved up from the initial estimate of March, as indicated on Tesla's updated website.

The new Model Y in China is initially offered as a Launch Edition, which includes all available options at no extra charge and Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability in the base price. This is a first for Tesla in the Chinese market, as FSD was previously not included in the base price.

The Model Y was first unveiled in China and other Asia-Pacific markets on January 10, 2025. Since then, Tesla has been working diligently to prepare for the launch, with Giga Shanghai starting production on February 17.

Customers who placed their orders on the night of the debut are seeing estimated delivery windows of mid to late March. This accelerated delivery timeline is a testament to Tesla's production efficiency and commitment to its customers.

Interestingly, the Launch Edition is the only option available in all Tesla markets, with the exception of Europe. Last week, the online configurator was updated to introduce the new Model Y design to the rest of the lineup in Europe.

Tesla has also made efforts to make the new Model Y more affordable. Despite the updates and additions compared to the outgoing version, Tesla was able to reduce the price on some variants. The Launch Edition is priced at C$84,990 in Canada and US$59,990 in the U.S., making it cheaper than a legacy Model Y when configured with the same options.

This is the second significant milestone for Tesla in China this week. On Tuesday, Tesla released Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China, but referred to it as 'Autopilot Automatic Assisted Driving on Urban Roads'.

As of the most recent update, customers in North America are not scheduled for delivery appointments yet. However, with the successful launch in China, it is expected that deliveries in other regions will follow soon.

For those interested in purchasing a Tesla, a referral link provides three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) when buying a Tesla. This offer is a great incentive for potential customers to join the Tesla family and experience the future of electric vehicles.
