Commencement of regular service: inaugural TINA tram embarks on official test run today
In a significant development for Halle's public transport, Vinzenz Schwarz, CEO of HAVAG, has announced that the city is on the cusp of a new era. This milestone marks the introduction of the modern TINA tram generation into Halle's transport system.
The first TINA tram, a 30-meter long MGT-M type vehicle, is currently undergoing type testing. Approval is expected in November, paving the way for its integration into the city's transport network.
HAVAG has ordered a total of 56 TINA trams from Stadler, with five already received. Of these, 39 will be the MGT-M type, designed for shorter routes within the city. The remaining trams will be longer XL variants, such as the initial 45-meter MGT-XL type tram currently in trial operation.
The TINA trams are a key component in modernising the HAVAG fleet and a crucial element in the development of sustainable mobility in Halle (Saale). They comply with technical standards for rail vehicles regarding audible sound, ensuring a quieter and more eco-friendly ride for passengers.
The trial phase aims to test the new vehicles' reliability, functionality, and driving behaviour under real conditions. Stadler is working closely with HAVAG to address any issues, such as reducing the vibrations caused by the TINA trams' increased weight.
The new TINA trams are expected to bring more comfort, safety, and climate protection to Halle's tracks. Their increased weight, due to modern and additional vehicle components like larger windows and doors, air conditioning, longer car bodies, more drive motors, and reinforced safety components, will shape the cityscape for at least three decades.
After the successful completion of the test operation and acceptance, the TINA trams delivered by Stadler will be gradually introduced into regular service, replacing the over 30-year-old MGT6D vehicles. The company delivering the remaining 51 TINA trams ordered by HAVAG is Kiepe Electric.
In addition to their use in regular service, further TINA trams will be utilised as training vehicles to gradually train all HAVAG drivers for the new vehicle generation. The introduction of the TINA trams will contribute to a modern, climate-friendly cityscape in Halle.
