Vodafone Expands 5G Network in Germany
In a significant move to enhance mobile broadband coverage, Vodafone GmbH has recently put a new 5G mobile station into operation in Jänschwalde, eliminating a gap in the area's mobile broadband coverage. This development follows Vodafone's ongoing infrastructure expansion in Germany, aiming to reach two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network.
The new 5G station in Jänschwalde not only provides residents and guests with improved mobile connectivity but also enables emergency calls and disaster warnings. The station supports the latest variants of the emergency call technology AML and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast, ensuring that the surrounding population can be warned via smartphone about danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods.
This expansion in Jänschwalde is part of Vodafone's broader plan to implement seven more mobile construction projects in the district by mid-2026. The remaining stations without 5G will be gradually upgraded and converted to 5G sites. Residents of the communities of Spremberg, Kolkwitz, and Guben will also benefit from upcoming 5G upgrades of the radio stations in their communities, Spremberg and Schenkendöbern.
Vodafone currently operates 70 mobile stations in the district, all equipped with the mobile broadband technology LTE. In addition to the Jänschwalde station, 48 of these stations already have 5G on board. In other locations, additional antennas for LTE and 5G will be installed at five existing sites to create larger network capacities.
Vodafone's commitment to network expansion extends beyond Jänschwalde. The company's machine network (Narrowband IoT) covers over 97% of German territory for industry and business. With its 5G network, Vodafone reaches over 90% of the population in Germany, positioning itself as a trusted partner for start-ups, SMEs, and DAX corporations alike.
The exact names of the seven communities where Vodafone plans to carry out the additional mobile construction projects by mid-2026 are not specified in the available sources. However, locations such as Sembach, Ramstein-Miesenbach, Frankenstein, Langgöns, and Sieg have been mentioned in relation to Vodafone's network expansion.
Vodafone Germany generates an annual turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees. Thanks to AML, the location of the caller is automatically transmitted to the emergency control center when calling "112" in Jänschwalde, ensuring swift and effective emergency response.
With these expansions, Vodafone is creating a robust mobile data highway, connecting more communities and ensuring better connectivity for its users. The company continues to invest in its infrastructure to provide reliable and high-speed mobile broadband services to its customers across Germany.
