In the heart of France's political landscape, a confidence vote threatens the government of Premier Minister François Bayrou. Amidst this uncertainty, key figures are expressing their views and making strategic moves.

Laurent Wauquiez, leader of the Republican deputies, has urged Bayrou to "correct" his budget, arguing against a "blank check" for the premier. Wauquiez, unlike Jordan Bardella, does not propose a vote of confidence, instead suggesting consultations with party members. Bardella, president of the National Rally (RN), has called for a new dissolution of the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, François Bayrou has announced plans to consult parties before the confidence vote. He is scheduled to meet with several political parties next week at Matignon, including the PCF, RN, LR, Renaissance, Horizons, UDR, Liot, and UDI. However, the strongest blocks in the National Assembly—left-wing parties and the far-right National Rally—have announced their opposition to Bayrou’s austerity plans and are expected to vote against him.

The Socialist Party, on the other hand, aims to raise €26.9 billion in revenue by taxing the wealthy and large companies. They have expressed their willingness to take over from Bayrou and have presented their budget proposals to prove that "another way" is possible.

Notably, Jordan Bardella made these statements on the sidelines of a visit to the fair in Châlons (Marne), while Ruffin's demand for Macron's resignation followed a joint meeting with Unitary members in Châtenoudun (Eure-et-Loir). Ruffin described Macron as the "last obstacle" and suggested that he should resign. The National Rally accuses "those in power" of being "factors of instability."

Interestingly, LFI and the Ecologists have announced their refusal to participate in these consultations. As the political landscape shifts, it remains to be seen how these events will unfold and what the future holds for France's government.
