In the dynamic world of video games, several significant events and announcements have taken place recently. Let's delve into some of the key developments.

CD Projekt, the Polish publisher behind the popular Witcher series, reported an impressive revenue of around 104 million euros in the first half of 2025, with a net profit of 36 million euros. The company's success was primarily driven by the releases of Cyberpunk 2077, including the expansion Phantom Liberty, and the continued demand for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt employs a total of 1,250 staff members, with the Witcher 4 team being continuously expanded. As of July 31st, 444 people were working on the role-playing blockbuster.

In a different corner of the gaming world, the Berlin studio Toukana Interactive is building on the success of Dorfromantik with Star Birds, a space construction game co-produced with Kurzgesagt / In a nutshell. Star Birds was originally scheduled to start early access on September 4th, but the release date has been pushed back to September 10th.

Atari has also been making waves in the industry. The company recently announced plans to acquire the majority of the existence-endangered Swedish publisher Thunderful Group, a move that was approved in an extraordinary general meeting. As a result, Atari has expanded its game brand portfolio to include Ubisoft classics such as Cold Fear, Child of Eden, Grow Home, Grow Up, and I Am Alive.

The submission deadline for the German Developer Award is fast approaching, with the deadline set for next Monday.

On a broader scale, Wolfram Weimer, the Minister of Culture and Media, expects streaming services and TV stations to invest significantly more money in series and films made in Germany in exchange for larger funding pots and tax incentives.

As for the gaming events of 2025, the largest based on visitor numbers were not specified. However, September is shaping up to be an exciting month for new releases, with Hollow Knight: Silksong, NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, Silent Hill f, and EA Sports FC 26 all set to hit the shelves.

Lastly, the federal games promotion does not have an "investment obligation" instrument. It's always important to clarify such details to maintain a clear understanding of the industry's landscape.
