Marburg to Host First Biathlon Relay City Championship

Marburg, a city in Germany, will be the location for the first ever Marburg Biathlon Relay City Championship on September 13th. The event, open to anyone aged 12 and above, will take place from 11 am to 2 pm, with no prior registration required for the individual competition.

The Biathlon Germany Tour, the world's largest public biathlon, will stop by the Erwin-Piscator-Haus in Marburg on the same day. Since 2015, the tour has had over 100,000 try-out shooters and around 20,000 competitors on more than 250 stages.

Each participant in the Marburg Biathlon Relay City Championship will run 400 meters (women 300 meters) on Thorax trainers, followed by a standing shooting round with five shots using infrared-equipped biathlon rifles. Clubs, companies, families, friends, and institutions are invited to participate with teams of four persons. Prior registration is required and is already possible.

In addition to the main event, a CardioBiathlon duel will take place in parallel, simulating cross-country skiing on Thorax trainers. Registration for the CardioBiathlon duel takes place directly on September 13th at the Biathlon Tour stand. The daily winner of the CardioBiathlon duel will be determined by the highest number of hits, with a tiebreaker of the fastest time.

SkiBash sponsors a special prize for the best student team in the Marburg Biathlon Relay City Championship. The best teams in the competition will be awarded trophies and additional surprise prizes. The top six teams will reach the semifinals, and the three teams that compete in the final for the city championship title will be determined from the semifinals. For each missed shot in the competition, there will be a 15-second time penalty before the next team member is sent into the race.

All competing teams in the Marburg Biathlon Relay City Championship will receive commemorative medals. The first Marburg Biathlon Relay City Championship will take place from 2 pm onwards. Practice shooting for all participants will take place at the biathlon arena on the event day from 11 am to 2 pm.

For further questions, the Sports, Movement and Healthy City department of the city of Marburg can be contacted at telephone 06421 201-1067 or via email at [email protected].
