In the ongoing Gaza conflict, Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced the death of Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for Hamas' military wing, in a targeted strike in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had previously confirmed the attack but stated the outcome was unclear.

Katz declared that Abu Obeida was "sent to a meeting with all eliminated actors of the Axis of Evil from Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen in the depths of hell." However, Hamas circles have suggested that rumors about Abu Obeida's death are part of Israel's psychological warfare.

Abu Obeida was a high-ranking and well-known figure in Hamas, known for always appearing veiled in public appearances and video messages. His death, if confirmed, would be a significant blow to the militant group's leadership.

The targeted residential building where Abu Obeida was reportedly killed was located in the Rimal neighborhood, which was considered an affluent area before the war. The civil defense controlled by Hamas reported the incident, but Hamas has not yet officially confirmed Abu Obeida's death.

The Gaza war, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the death of nearly 63,500 Palestinians and the injury of around 160,000, according to Hamas' health authority. The numbers of deaths and injuries do not distinguish between civilians and fighters of terrorist organizations and cannot be independently verified, but are considered credible by the UN.

In addition to Abu Obeida, Israel has killed numerous high-ranking Hamas leaders and commanders during the conflict, including Jihia al-Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, and Mohammed Deif. The numbers of deaths and injuries in the Gaza war have not been officially confirmed by Hamas.

Despite the ongoing conflict, the public was urged not to spread rumors about Abu Obeida's death by Hamas. There are no available search results indicating the current spokesperson of Hamas' military wing following Abu Obeida's death.

The Gaza war has also resulted in the taking of more than 250 people as hostages to the Gaza Strip by Hamas and other Islamic groups. The numbers of deaths and injuries in the Gaza war continue to rise, and the conflict shows no signs of abating.
