In the heart of Berlin, the revitalization of Friedrichstraße is underway, transforming it into a more accessible and vibrant space for all.

The second section of Friedrichstraße, beyond Graf-Adolf-Platz, is currently being redesigned with a barrier-free layout, aiming for completion within nine months. This section will feature tactile guidance elements, barrier-free intersection areas, and multifunctional zones for outdoor dining and parking.

The first street trees have already been planted, and workers are laying gray concrete paving stones on the sidewalks. Smaller anthracite-colored concrete stones mark the multifunctional areas or the entrances to the houses on Friedrichstraße.

The completed areas, from Kaufland to Bachstraße, including the cross-connection Kirchfeldstraße between Friedrichstraße and Elisabethstraße, as well as half of the area between Bachstraße and Fürstenwall, showcase how the future quality of stay along Friedrichstraße will look. New bicycle parking facilities have been installed, and the first benches have been placed for the comfort of residents and visitors.

The surface work on Friedrichstraße began in November 2024, and the completion of the first section is expected in the first quarter of 2026. The northern Friedrichstraße, including Herzogstraße, up to Graf-Adolf-Platz is scheduled for expansion in the spring of 2026.

Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) has been instrumental in overseeing the construction work on Friedrichstraße and its cross streets. His advocacy for a construction site coordinator has helped to intensively monitor the progress of construction companies, ensuring delays and prolonged inactivity are minimized.

This revitalization project is a significant step towards making Berlin a more accessible city, enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors alike. The transformed Friedrichstraße is set to become a prime example of urban renewal and accessibility in the heart of the city.
