Conservative Party (CDU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD) in a tight battle
In the city of Pforzheim, a dispute over kindergarten placements has become a focal point of political discussion. The controversy involves Mayor Peter Boch and the ruling parties, with the SPD demanding transparency in the allocation process.
The dispute began when a person named Sarah Zwißler confronted SPD district chairwoman Annkathrin Wulff in an open letter, questioning the allocation of kindergarten places for Mayor Boch's family. CDU district chairman Gunther Krichbaum described the attacks as "vile," while Krichbaum himself has drawn a line under the social affairs election.
Krichbaum stated that it's understandable if SPD functionaries are disappointed about the election result, but wild lashing out is not justified. He also added that falsely accusing the mayor of a criminal offense goes too far and constitutes a criminal offense in itself.
The allocation of childcare places in Pforzheim follows criteria that are understandable to everyone. However, concerns have been raised about the placement of the Boch family, particularly for the youngest child who, like nearly 1200 other parents, currently has no kindergarten place in the city.
It is surprising that Mayor Boch has been able to obtain kindergarten and nursery places in the normal way, as neither waiting time nor special social circumstances of the parents or children are apparent. The oldest child of the Boch family is entitled to a childcare place due to being in the last kindergarten year, while the middle child benefits from "sibling points."
The exchange between SPD district chairman Frederic Striegler and Mayor Peter Boch has involved the executive boards of both the Pforzheim district and city associations of SPD and CDU. The SPD demands that the criteria for the allocation of places to Mayor Boch and the selection decision be disclosed in detail.
If there are any protectable personal interests of the mayor or other parents involved, the allocation decision may be reviewed by an independent commission. However, Krichbaum stated that there has been no favoritism or abuse of office in the allocation of childcare places in Pforzheim.
The dispute is considered a political issue that should be dealt with factually in the current kindergarten crisis. SPD executive board members Wulff and Christoph Mährlein regret that the dispute over kindergarten places for Mayor Boch has become a personal matter. They emphasize the need for a solution that benefits all families in need of childcare.
In light of the ongoing crisis, the focus remains on finding solutions for the hundreds of families who are currently without kindergarten places in Pforzheim. The city and its political leaders are urged to work together to find a fair and equitable solution for all.
