Construction commences on Brampton's pioneering electric fire station
The City of Brampton, located in Ontario, Canada, is set to revolutionise its emergency services with the construction of its first-ever all-electric fire station, Station 215. If all goes according to plan, the station is expected to open its doors in Fall 2026.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has thrown his support behind the project, stating that the new station will enable faster emergency responses and reduce emissions. The owner of the first electric rescue vehicle for the fire station in Brampton, Ontario, is the Brampton Fire and Emergency Services.
The city has already made a significant step towards electrifying its fire trucks by purchasing its first electric fire truck, a Rosenbauer RTX pumper truck, in 2023. Another electric fire truck is expected to be stationed at Station 215 by next year.
Station 215 will be equipped with a fully electric infrastructure, including a green roof, an extra bay, a hose tower, energy-efficient HVAC equipment, and rooftop solar panels. The station will also support an EV pumper truck.
Once operational, the city anticipates that emergency response times in the area will drop by 33%. This is a promising development for the community, as faster emergency responses could mean the difference between life and death in critical situations.
The city's investment in EV infrastructure and a new fire station aims to ensure continued access to emergency services, while also contributing to a greener and more sustainable city. The construction of Station 215 is a significant step forward in Brampton's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and improving the quality of life for its residents.
