The Gennaker project, set to become the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, is making significant strides in its development. The German Baltic Sea transmission system operator 50Hertz is spearheading the grid connection (OST-6-1) for the project.

Skyborn Renewables, a notable player in the renewable energy sector, has signed preferred supplier agreements for the Gennaker project. The company has secured contracts not only for Siemens Gamesa's SG 14-236 turbines but also for the supply of these turbines by Siemens Gamesa.

The contract for the delivery and installation of 63 monopiles and transition pieces for the Gennaker offshore wind farm project has been awarded to Smulders. The monopiles will be manufactured in Rostock, Germany, while the transition pieces will be manufactured in Penglai, China, and undergo final work in Odense, Denmark. EEW Special Pipe Construction (EEW SPC) will manufacture and supply the monopiles, and Dajin Heavy Industry will manufacture and deliver the transition pieces.

The consortium comprising HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv will deliver the two offshore substations for the Gennaker project. Allseas is responsible for the transportation and installation of these substations.

The transportation and installation of monopiles and transition pieces for the Gennaker project has been awarded to Seaway7. A consortium of Boskalis and TKF has been selected for the supply and installation of approximately 140 kilometres of inter-array cables. The inter-array cables for the project will be manufactured in Eemshaven, Netherlands.

The offshore transportation and installation of the wind turbines for the Gennaker project is yet to be finalised, but Skyborn Renewables has entered a Preferred Shipowner's Agreement (PSA) with Fred. Olsen Windcarrier. The charter party agreement is expected to be signed later in 2025. The Brave Tern jack-up vessel, owned by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, will carry out the offshore installation of the 63 wind turbines for the Gennaker project in 2028.

The Gennaker project is planned to be commissioned in 2028, approximately 15 kilometers north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Once operational, it will significantly contribute to Germany's renewable energy targets and strengthen its position as a leader in offshore wind energy.
