DESY: Pioneering Research and Innovation in Hamburg and Beyond

DESY, a research center of the Helmholtz Association, is making significant strides in the scientific world. Based in Hamburg and Zeuthen (Brandenburg), DESY develops and builds unique research tools that span from the interplay of smallest elementary particles to the great mysteries of the universe.

DESY's commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer has been recognised with the "Hamburg 2040" award. The research center is also a key player in the Science City Bahrenfeld cooperation, a network aimed at fostering innovation and technology transfer.

In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, DESY is involved in research for potential medications. The DESY Innovation Factory is eager to collaborate with institutions including universities, startups, Deep-Tech companies, and research organizations located in the Hamburg region, such as the University of Hamburg and entities involved in the Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and Innovationspark Altona. This collaboration aims to foster innovation and technology transfer, starting soon and continuing as these platforms develop.

DESY's dedication to innovation doesn't stop at research. The DESY startup labs in Bahrenfeld are set to be expanded, further boosting the region's scientific and technological growth.

The funding for DESY is a testament to its importance. It is funded 90% by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and 10% by the states of Hamburg and Brandenburg, demonstrating a strong commitment to its continued success.

DESY's work as one of the world's leading accelerator centers, exploring the structure and function of matter, is making a significant impact in the scientific community. With its focus on innovation, collaboration, and research, DESY is a beacon of scientific progress in Germany and beyond.
