Construction of an inclusive sports facility for the upcoming school, gaining community endorsement
Greifswald, Germany - Exciting developments are underway in Greifswald as construction work progresses on the city's new inclusive school centre and sports hall. The project, currently estimated to cost around 80 million euros, is being supported by eight million euros from the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE).
The sports hall, approximately 24 by 45 meters in size and divisible into three equal parts, will be equipped with barrier-free facilities. It will also boast extensive outdoor facilities, making it an ideal venue for various sports such as football, handball, basketball, volleyball, and badminton.
Meanwhile, construction work for media and basic lines, as well as earth excavation and infrastructure works, are currently ongoing. After the completion of these initial stages, infrastructure works, drilling work for pile foundation, and the commencement of geothermal energy production will begin. More than 333 piles, two-thirds of which will be geothermally activated, will be drilled for the foundation.
The geothermal piles will be concreted in and will contribute to the environmentally friendly heating and cooling of the building. Additionally, a heat pump and a photovoltaic system will be used for heat generation, further reducing the building's carbon footprint. The majority of heat generation will be provided by Greifswald city works' district heating.
A further 29 million euros in urban development funding will be used for the construction of the primary school with kindergarten and canteen. The school is designed to accommodate more than 700 students from the first to the tenth grade, with two of the six changing rooms planned specifically for wheelchair users.
The first classes are expected to move in for the school year 2028/2029. However, no new information about the total costs or the size of the school building was provided in this paragraph. Regarding the architect of the new building complex, which includes a school centre and a gymnasium, no information was found in the search results.
Despite the missing details, the community of Greifswald is eagerly anticipating the completion of this major project, which will provide a modern, inclusive learning environment and a state-of-the-art sports facility for the city's youth.
