Construction of school structures continues on Jägerallee, despite apprehensions voiced by certain parties
The city of Potsdam and the German Federal Association for Nature Conservation (BUND) have reached a compromise over the construction of a temporary container facility at Jägerallee 23A. This facility will provide additional classroom space for Dalton-Gymnasium until its new building is ready for occupancy.
Initially, the BUND objected to the building permit for the container facility, citing concerns about sealing an ecologically sensitive area. However, intensive discussions led to a compromise solution that allows for the temporary use of the area for school containers.
The city has agreed to plant ten large trees as part of the compromise, and binding measures for impact minimization and area restoration have been agreed upon by all parties. The BUND will be actively involved in the planning of the later renaturation.
Axel Kruschat, Managing Director of the BUND Brandenburg, acknowledged the growing demand for school places but expressed critical views about the temporary sealing of the area. He emphasized the importance of preserving nature and the landscape.
The city and the BUND have engaged in dialogue to avoid a legal dispute regarding the container facility at Jägerallee 23A. The Deputy Mayor for Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports, Torsten Wiegel, confirmed the agreement between the city and the BUND.
The city of Potsdam is obligated by the Brandenburg School Act to build schools, and the Dalton-Gymnasium was founded as part of the Integrated Kita and School Development Plan 2021-2026. Initially, the school began operation at a location other than its originally planned property due to a delay in the availability of the property on Pappelallee.
The city, BUND, and residents have reached a compromise to minimize the impact on nature and the landscape. After the new school building is completed, the container facility will be removed, and the site will be renaturalized.
The project manager or head of BUND Brandenburg who changed his position against the construction of the container building at Jägerallee 23A in Potsdam is Thomas Mütze. The planned container facility at Jägerallee now serves as an interim solution until the final new building for Dalton-Gymnasium is ready for occupancy.
