The CSU and Free Voters have reached a compromise on the reform of the Bavarian hunting law, according to reports from coalition circles. This development is expected to be addressed at a press conference scheduled after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The dispute between the two parties over the reform of the hunting law has been ongoing for months. The latest point of contention revolves around the roe deer shooting plans. Interestingly, this issue was not mentioned in the earlier agreed points, such as the inclusion of the wolf in the state hunting law or the hunting seasons for deer.

The administrative shooting plan for roe deer was a point of contention in the coalition and among associations. As of the end of 2023, the responsibility for hunting in Bavaria, including roe deer shooting plans, lies with the Economics Ministry, specifically Minister Hubert Aiwanger.

However, Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber, who previously held the responsibility for hunting, had insisted that the wolf shooting should be legally clarified at the federal level. Despite this, a basic agreement has been reached in the dispute over the inclusion of the wolf in the state hunting law.

The resolution of the roe deer shooting plan issue could potentially lead to further progress in the reform of the Bavarian hunting law. Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger and Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber are expected to attend a press conference after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss the latest developments in more detail.

It's important to note that the agreement on the roe deer shooting plans is not yet final, as it is still a point of contention in the coalition and among associations. The issue of roe deer shooting plans determines how much roe deer must be shot to protect forests from wild browsing.

The State Chancellery sent out an invitation for the press conference on Monday afternoon, but the invitation did not specify that the roe deer shooting plans would be a topic of discussion. The press conference is expected to provide more clarity on the details of the compromise reached by the CSU and Free Voters.
