Controversial Lawmaker Ishii Steps Down from Nippon Ishin Due to Scandal
In a shocking turn of events, Akira Ishii, a member of the upper chamber of the Japanese parliament, the House of Councillors, is under investigation for fraudulently receiving salaries for a public secretary who did not work for him.
The special squad of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office has launched an investigation into Ishii, following allegations of fraud. The investigation is related to a scandal that has rocked the political landscape of Japan.
Hiroshi Nakatsuka, secretary-general of Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party), attended a meeting with Ishii on Friday morning to discuss the matter. However, no new details about the scandal were disclosed during the meeting, and no further actions or decisions regarding Ishii's expulsion from the party were announced.
Ishii, who is accused of fraud, has expressed a willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation. He has also announced his intention to resign as a lawmaker, but has not yet given a formal resignation.
The current leader of Nippon Ishin no Kai, after Akira Ishii left, is Ichiro Matsui. Matsui held a press conference after the meeting and shared that Ishii has apologized for causing trouble.
Fumitake Fujita, co-leader of Nippon Ishin no Kai, met with Ishii at a hotel in Tokyo to discuss the matter. The public secretary in question did not work for Ishii.
