Convicted Diesel Modifier Anticipates Presidential Pardon Secures Support from State Authorities
In a recent development, members of the Wyoming state government have urged President Trump to grant a full pardon to Troy Lake, the owner of Elite Diesel. The move comes after Lake was convicted of conspiring to violate the Clean Air Act.
According to reports, Lake was sentenced to 12 months and one day in custody and must pay a fine of $52,500. The conviction stemmed from allegations that his company instructed employees to tamper with emissions control systems on at least 344 heavy-duty commercial trucks.
However, supporters of Lake argue that he was trying to help people by modifying emissions systems. They claim that the modifications made by Elite Diesel helped keep school buses on the road that transport Wyoming children daily, often in harsh conditions.
The greater storyline of fines and felonies handed to diesel tuners for violating the Clean Air Act has been covered for years at our platform. Lake's penalties are just a fraction of what some shop owners in the diesel truck industry have received for similar offenses.
The push for a presidential pardon for Lake comes as many in the diesel truck industry celebrate President Trump's return, expecting lighter regulations and possibly even dropped charges. So far, only lighter regulations have been seen in the industry since President Trump's return.
The letter written by Chip Neiman, Speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives, and others accuses a "weaponized regulatory state" of targeting Lake and Elite Diesel. The letter states that Lake was unjustly prosecuted and convicted under the Clean Air Act by the Biden Administration. It also claims that the federal government's sentencing of Lake was not motivated by justice, but rather by politics.
The letter further states that the modifications made by Elite Diesel cause severe reliability issues, including engine failures, vehicle fires, reduced fuel efficiency, and exorbitant repair costs.
As of now, there are no available search results indicating which persons participated in a petition to US Pardon Attorney Edward J. Martin Jr. to obtain a presidential pardon for Troy Lake. This issue is expected to continue to be discussed.
The FBI, EPA, and local law enforcement raided Elite Diesel in 2018. The EPA's stance on greenhouse gas emissions regulations has changed under Trump-appointed Administrator Lee Zeldin.
Wyoming state representatives are also pushing for a presidential pardon for Troy Lake. More than 40 Wyoming House members co-signed Neiman's letter to the U.S. Pardon Attorney for Lake's case.
This news comes as a significant turn of events in the ongoing saga of the diesel truck industry and its regulations. The industry, and specifically the case of Troy Lake, will likely remain a topic of interest and debate in the coming months.
