China's Electric Vehicle Market Shows Significant Growth in First Half of 2025

In a remarkable show of growth, China's electric vehicle market has witnessed a surge in sales during the first half of 2025. According to recent reports, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) markets have both seen impressive increases compared to the same period last year.

Leading the charge in the PHEV market is BYD, which has maintained its position as the market leader with the highest sales figures. The BYD Song Pro, BYD Song L, and the newly introduced BYD Seal 06 have been the company's top performers, securing significant market shares. Notably, the BYD Song Pro took third place in the PHEV market, with 100,140 deliveries, while the BYD Qin Plus topped the monthly figures in June, with 25,000 sales.

The BYD Destroyer 05 also made a comeback, re-entering the PHEV top 10 with 61,858 sales. The BYD Song L improved to take seventh place, with 76,500 sales, and the BYD Dolphin rose to sixth, with 18,106 deliveries. The BYD Qin L and the BYD Sea Lion 05 tied for 10th spot, both achieving a record result in their fourth month of sales, with 15,000 deliveries each.

Tesla's Model Y, on the other hand, made a strong appearance in the BEV market, becoming the best-selling BEV in China during June, with 44,848 deliveries. The Xiaomi SU7 took fifth position, while the BYD Yuan Up claimed sixth, marking an 82.9% rise and a 2.2% market share, growing by 0.5pp.

The Geely Geome Xingyuan continued its impressive performance, taking the lead in the BEV market in the first half of 2025, with 205,091 sales and making up 5.9% of BEV sales in the country. The Geely Panda Mini was in ninth with 91,249 deliveries, and the BYD Yuan Plus rounded out the table in 10th with 86,800 deliveries.

The PHEV market has also seen a substantial increase, with a 36.1% growth between January and June, resulting in 2,460,588 units sold. The BYD Song Plus secured second place in the monthly PHEV total in June, with 21,813 units, and the Aito M9 is in ninth place, with 58,700 deliveries. The Aito M8 took fourth place, with 21,815 units, and the Haval H6 made its top 10 debut, with 12,708 units delivered.

China's BEV market also experienced a 43.7% year-on-year increase, with 3,498,460 units delivered in the first half of 2025. The Li Auto L6, Tesla's Model Y, and the Geely Geome Xingyuan have been the top performers in the BEV market, securing significant market shares.

In summary, the electric vehicle market in China has shown remarkable growth in the first half of 2025, with both BEV and PHEV markets witnessing significant increases in sales compared to the same period last year. BYD and Tesla have been the top performers in their respective markets, while the Geely Geome Xingyuan has continued its impressive performance in the BEV market.
