Cora secures his 600th victory as Red Sox manager, Sogard notches a game-deciding two-run double in a thrilling 7-4 win against the Diamondbacks in the 9th inning.

The Boston Red Sox secured a hard-fought victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in a thrilling encounter, with the final score reading 6-4. The win, achieved in the eighth inning, was a testament to the team's resilience and determination.

In the eighth inning, the Diamondbacks managed to tie the game at 4-4 thanks to a RBI single from Jordan Lawler off Zack Kelly. However, the Red Sox responded swiftly, with Nick Sogard lining a late tiebreaking, two-run double.

The game was not without its dramatic moments. Trevor Story, who has been flawless this year with 27 successful steal attempts, successfully stole a base on a pickoff attempt in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, Jordan Lawler committed a two-run throwing error in the same inning, which could have changed the course of the game.

Aroldis Chapman, the Red Sox's reliable closer, continued his impressive form, extending his hitless streak to 17 appearances. His streak, which spans 14 2/3 innings since July 26, is the third-longest since 1901. In the ninth inning, Chapman struck out four batters, tying the record for strikeouts in an inning (4), and further extending his hitless streak.

Taylor Rashi (0-1) took the loss for the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs in the ninth inning. On the other hand, Garrett Whitlock (6-3) threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the Red Sox. Carlos Narvaéz added a run-scoring single in the ninth inning for the Red Sox.

With this win, the Red Sox are now 1 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees for the top AL wild card and 3 1/2 games behind AL East-leading Toronto. Up next, Red Sox RHP Garrett Crochet (14-5, 2.67 ERA) pitches Monday in the opener of a three-game series at the Athletics. Meanwhile, Arizona Diamondbacks RHP Nabil Crismatt (2-0, 2.14) pitches the opener of a three-game series at San Francisco on Monday.

The Red Sox's victory also marked a significant milestone for manager Alex Cora, who secured his 600th win as Boston manager with this victory. The team will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming series against the Oakland Athletics.
