Corporate Training Lacks Transparency Regarding Preliminary Data

In a joint study conducted by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Institute of the German Economy, it was revealed that 95% of young people aged 14 to 25 find information about training remuneration important, yet less than half of the companies surveyed inform applicants about the simple application processes beforehand. This gap between the application processes offered by companies and the information provided about them is a concern that needs addressing.

The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce has emphasized the need for stronger utilization of support offers for training young people with special needs. They also advocate for mandatory career orientation in schools, with companies playing a significant role. Bernd Fitzenberger, director of the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg, suggests improving the process of bringing young people and businesses together. He proposes that young people should be able to try out an apprenticeship before committing.

To address the lack of orientation for potential candidates, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce attributes unfilled apprenticeships to this issue. To combat this, institutions such as the Helmholtz Association support young innovators with workshops and incubators to bridge research and business. Companies like ATESTEO offer test or long-term internships for students, providing practical experience in areas such as automotive testing. Mevis offers student internships and part-time jobs in software testing, combining practical tasks with educational components.

The German Federal Employment Agency provides structured guidance and online resources for finding and applying for internships, supporting both young people and companies in connecting through transparent information on available programs and practices. These programs are often communicated via dedicated webpages, event presentations, workshops, and ongoing support with monitoring and coaching.

However, it's worth noting that only 60% of companies surveyed provide information about training remuneration before an interview, and 9 out of 10 companies offer simple application processes. It's crucial for companies to communicate these details clearly to potential applicants to foster a more transparent and accessible application process.

These initiatives aim to create a more harmonious and productive relationship between young people and businesses, ensuring that both parties benefit from the training and employment opportunities available. By improving the application processes, providing clear information, and promoting career orientation, Germany is working towards a future where young people can thrive in their chosen careers and businesses can find the skilled workers they need.
