The Big Birmingham Bikes project, an award-winning initiative, is set to expand its reach to East Birmingham, aiming to ensure accessible cycling for all residents. This next phase of the project, led by The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS), was awarded a contract by Birmingham City Council.

TAWS will be working closely with partners Wheels for All, Sähëlï Hub, and Cycling UK to deepen their offer to residents in Birmingham. The focus of this phase will be on providing residents with access to bikes, cycle skills, maintenance training, and support to switch from car to bike for short trips.

In addition, the next phase will involve delivering new and improved cycle routes across the city. Birmingham City Council cabinet member Majid Mahmood is collaborating with TAWS and other partners to make this vision a reality.

The Big Birmingham Bikes initiative, first launched in 2015, has already distributed over 7,500 bikes across the city, making a significant impact on the city's transportation landscape.

Wheels for All, a partner in the project, will collaborate to create an accessible cycling hub, providing adapted bikes, trikes, and tailored cycling support. This hub will cater to a wider range of individuals, ensuring that everyone in Birmingham has the opportunity to participate in cycling.

The CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, will recognise and celebrate achievements and innovations in active travel on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. More information about the CiTTi Awards can be found at www.cittiawards.co.uk.

The project lead for the next phase of Big Birmingham Bikes has not been explicitly identified in the provided search results. Nonetheless, the expansion of this initiative is a significant step towards promoting active travel and sustainable transportation in Birmingham.
