Criminal intrusion suspect detained by authorities
In the heart of Braunschweig, an unexpected event unfolded on the night of August 18, 2025. A burglary took place at an inner-city school located on Oswald-Berkhan-Straße.
The burglary, which occurred during the night from Sunday to Monday, was noticed by an employee of a security company at around 03:30h. The employee, while on patrol, observed a suspicious bicycle and noises coming from the school building. Suspicions were confirmed when they found several forced doors and open cabinets inside the school.
The security employee alerted the police about the suspicious activity, and the Braunschweig Police responded promptly, arriving at the scene at exactly 01:30h. There, they apprehended a 51-year-old man from Braunschweig, who was found hiding near the school. The man was caught red-handed, with burglary tools and suspected stolen goods in his possession.
The man, who has been provisionally arrested for aggravated theft, was discovered by patrol cars in the vicinity of the school in the city center. The Criminal Police subsequently secured the crime scene and collected evidence.
