The picturesque spa town of Rathen played host to the Felsenbühne Festspiele 2023, a summer extravaganza of theatre and music that captivated audiences from mid-May to last Sunday.

The festival offered a diverse range of productions, including opera, fairy tales, musicals, and children's plays. Among the highlights were the romantic opera "Der Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber, the musical classic "West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein, and the children's play "Pettersson and Findus".

Wilhelm Hauff's fairy tale "Das kalte Herz" and Hugo von Hofmannsthal's "Jedermann" also found a place in this year's programme. The production of "Jedermann" was staged by the Felsenbühne Rathen theater group, while the specifics about the success or reception of these productions were not provided.

The ensembles of Landesbühnen Sachsen were also part of this year's festivities, along with a stellar lineup of performers such as Gojko Mitic, Tom Pauls, Jürgen Haase, and Tom Quaas.

For the first time, the newly installed open-air stages hub podium was used in new productions at the Felsenbühne Festspiele 2023. This innovative setup added an extra layer of excitement to the performances.

The Felsenbühne Rathen, an open-air stage nestled in the heart of Rathen, played host to a total of 76 performances throughout the summer. The festival attracted approximately 73,000 visitors, a testament to its enduring popularity.

While we await the publication of the complete program for summer 2024 in October, it's clear that the Felsenbühne Festspiele 2023 was a resounding success. This year's festival included two premieres and four successful productions from last summer, promising a continuation of the high-quality entertainment that the Felsenbühne Festspiele is known for.
