Crypto Investments Under Scrutiny: Police Issue Cautionary Statement on Ongoing Scams
In a recent development, the police in Neubrandenburg have issued a cautionary statement against internet fraud schemes involving cryptocurrency investments. This warning comes after multiple fraud reports were filed in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and Vorpommern-Greifswald districts on August 26, 2025.
The fraudsters, who have yet to be identified, contacted potential victims via email, WhatsApp, or even phone calls. They initially promised lucrative returns on investments in cryptocurrencies, a promise that proved to be a ruse.
The perpetrators used a similar modus operandi in all three reported cases. At the beginning, a sum of around 200 euros was demanded to be paid into a supposed account. However, no withdrawals were made in any of the three cases.
The total damage from these reported cases amounts to 73,000 euros. It is important to note that investing money online carries high risks due to the unverified authenticity of platforms.
To avoid falling victim to such scams, the police urge individuals to seek advice from their banks before considering any online investment. They also advise being wary of sharing personal data and questioning internet advertisements.
For inquiries during office hours, contact Johanna Liebich at the Police Inspectorate Neubrandenburg Press Office. Her contact information includes a telephone number, email address, and a link to the Police Inspectorate Neubrandenburg's website.
In some cases, the perpetrators used well-known political figures to gain the user's trust. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of such communications before engaging in any financial transactions.
The police are currently investigating these cases and are urging the public to remain vigilant. If you have any information regarding these fraudulent activities, please contact your local police station in Demmin, Greifswald, or Pasewalk.
Stay safe and secure, and let's work together to combat online fraud.
