In the heart of Bavaria, the Schweinfurt Customs Office has been a pillar of financial security and regulatory compliance. Last year, the office made a substantial impact in the fight against the black economy and illegal employment.

The office's efforts resulted in a total of approximately 53.5 years (642 months) of custodial sentences being imposed in 2023. This tough stance against illegal activities was reflected in the 24 million euros of damage caused by the black economy and illegal employment being mitigated.

The Schweinfurt Customs Office, with a workforce of 700 employees, collected approximately 1.8 billion euros in taxes and import duties in 2023. The revenue contributions were primarily from customs duties and import VAT (1.08 billion euros) and consumption taxes (408 million euros).

Around 25 million euros in taxes on alcohol, tobacco, sparkling wine, and coffee were also collected. Notably, more than 31 million euros in beer tax were collected, which flows directly to the Free State of Bavaria as tax revenue.

The office's success is not limited to financial gains. The Traffic Routes Control Unit of the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, based in Bamberg, secured more than 407,000 pieces of cigarettes and removed around 83 kilograms of water pipe tobacco in 2023.

The office's commitment to public safety extends beyond financial regulation. The customs offices ensure that no inferior medicines, unsafe technical products, or counterfeit products are imported into the European Union.

The Central Criminal and Administrative Offenses Office North Bavaria, based in Bamberg, is responsible for processing offenses and criminal proceedings of the Main Customs Offices Schweinfurt, Nuremberg, and Regensburg. In 2022, over 4,200 criminal proceedings and nearly 300 administrative fine proceedings in the field of customs and excise offenses were completed.

The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is also committed to fostering talent. Currently, the office is training 96 trainees in the higher and middle customs service, including those in the newly designed Bachelor of Laws degree program since March 1, 2024.

The office invites the public to learn more about its operations. A day of open doors will take place at the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt (Londonstraße 24) on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 10:00 to 15:00.
