Customs office opens door on July 13, 2024, in Schweinfurt - Customs showcases array of responsibilities to public
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, a regional hub that secures the commonwealth, promotes the German economic location, contributes to the stability of social systems, and ensures security and economic fairness, is set to host an Open House event on July 13, 2024.
Located at Londonstraße 24, this event promises to be an enlightening experience for students, interested citizens, and representatives from politics and collaborating authorities. The day will run from 10:00 to 15:00, with media representatives invited to visit at 10:00 and participate in a guided tour at 10:30.
Highlights of the event include performances by customs dogs and demonstrations of control situations in different enforcement areas of customs. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about the central tasks of the Zoll (Main Customs Office) today, which include collecting duties and taxes, consumer protection, ensuring smooth international goods traffic, preventing and combating undeclared work, cross-border serious and organized crime, and money laundering.
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, employing around 700 staff members, is the regional customs office for Lower and Upper Franconia. It has branch offices in Schweinfurt, Bamberg, Kitzingen, Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Dettelbach-Mainfrankenpark, and Schweinfurt.
Last year, the customs office seized over 400,000 smuggled cigarettes and collected 1.8 billion euros for the federal budget. Courts have also imposed more than 53 years of imprisonment for illegal employment and tax evasion.
A hands-on activity has been planned for the youngest visitors at the Open House event. Food and drink options will be provided throughout the day.
