A cyber attack on a UK-based company, Access Personal Checking Services Ltd (APCS), has reportedly led to a data breach, affecting the personal information of some individuals in the Channel Islands. According to reports, the company facilitates Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, which are used for background checks in the UK.

The breach reportedly includes a wide range of personal data, including driving license details, identity information such as passport details, national insurance numbers, personal contact information, and other sensitive data. Capita, another UK-based company, has been identified as the specific company affected by the cyberattack leading to the data loss.

Guernsey's independent Data Protection Authority (ODPA) has been engaged after being contacted by "a number of Bailiwick residents". The ODPA has advised islanders to take protective measures, such as changing their passwords, and to be vigilant against potential "red flags" such as a sudden increase in credit inquiries or alerts.

However, the ODPA has stated that the impact on Guernsey residents from the data breach may be limited, according to information provided by APCS. No further details about the extent or nature of the data breach have been disclosed at this time.

As the situation develops, it is crucial for affected individuals to remain vigilant and to take necessary precautions to protect their personal information. This includes regularly monitoring financial accounts for suspicious activity and reporting any unusual activity to the relevant authorities.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
