Cycling Expedition "Bykyksternfahrt Ruhr" and CSD Dortmund Declare Joint Endeavor
In 2025, the cities of the Ruhr area will witness a unique event as the "Bicycle Star Ride Ruhr" protest and the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Dortmund join forces. This joint event, under the motto "City for all - Diversity on every route," aims to promote fair mobility and visibility, tolerance, and solidarity for the queer community.
The organisers, Initiative VeloCityRuhr, advocate for more equitable and sustainable transportation options, opposing discrimination and exclusion in mobility. They criticise the lack of cycling infrastructure, dangerous intersections, and narrow, unpaved, or unlit cycle paths in the Ruhr area cities.
The event will see approximately 1,000 cyclists participate, with Tim Moritz speaking at both events. Moritz, a prominent figure, states that both the queer community and unmotorized road users face similar problems.
The route of the protest includes Wallring, B1, OW IIIa, and ends in Volksgarten Mengede. The protest is scheduled for August 16, 2025, in Dortmund, beginning at the Petrikirche in Kampstraße at 1 pm.
The CSD element of the event highlights the fight against queerphobia and right-wing extremism, under the motto “Queer, loud, proud. Zusammen gegen Rechts” ("Together against right-wing extremism") to promote visibility and counter discrimination with public demonstrations and celebrations.
This joint effort underlines that fair, accessible mobility and social equality are interconnected issues for the organisers. The signal is intended for both roads and society as a whole, aiming to send a strong message for tolerance, diversity, and respectful coexistence by connecting both events.
