Cycling Race in Montreal 2025
The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 2025 took place on September 14, 2025, in the vibrant city of Montreal. This prestigious cycling event, one of two WorldTour races held in North America in the 2025 season, attracted some of the world's top cyclists.
The race took place on a 12.3km circuit in the Parc du Mont-Royal, a location steeped in cycling history. The circuit has hosted notable victories, including Eddy Merckx and Geneviève Gambillon's rainbow jersey triumphs in 1974 and Bernt Johansson's victory over Giuseppe Martinelli at the Olympic Games in 1976.
The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 2025 consisted of 17 laps, totaling 209.1km. The race began at 10:15 AM and was expected to finish at 3:45 PM. Each lap included 269 metres of elevation, with three short climbs.
The first climb was Côte Camillien-Houde, a 1.8km ascent at 8%. The second climb was Côte de la Polytechnique, a 780m uphill stretch at 6%, including a 200m portion of 11%. The last climb, Pagnuelo (534 metres at 7.5%), came just under three kilometres from the finish line.
The race was intense, with a five-man breakaway forming early on. However, Tadej Pogačar, the previous winner of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal (2024), outpowered the breakaway to secure the victory. His teammate Brandon McNulty came in second, resulting in a UAE team one-two finish.
Pogačar's victory serves as an obvious build-up to the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, which will also be held in Montreal. In fact, Événements GPCQM, who have run the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal races since 2010, will organize the 2026 UCI Road World Championships.
Notable runner-ups in previous editions of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal include Wout van Aert (2022) and Pavel Sivakov (2023). Adam Yates won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal in 2023.
The start list for the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 2025 was powered by FirstCycling. The race concluded with the field negotiating a U-turn on Avenue du Parc before the final uphill drag to the finish line. The winner, Brandon McNulty, secured the victory with the tactical support and lead-out from his teammate Tadej Pogacar.
As the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal 2025 comes to a close, the cycling world eagerly awaits the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, which promise to be an exciting culmination of the cycling season in Montreal.
