Cycling triumph and impressive history: Stunning achievements at the Ötztal Cycling Marathon

In the heart of the Austrian Alps, the 44th edition of the Ötztaler Radmarathon took place in Sölden, attracting over 4,000 cyclists from around the globe. Among the participants, two riders stood out, claiming victories in their respective categories.

Daniel Federspiel, a two-time Cross Country Eliminator World Champion (2015, 2016), clinched the men's title for the second time, securing a Tiroler double victory alongside Jonas Holzknecht in the 227-kilometer race. The race, known for its challenging terrain, included four Alpine passes: Kuhtai, Brenner, Jaufen, and Timmelsjoch, and boasted a total elevation of 5,500 meters.

Federspiel, 38 years old, finished the race in 6:48:27, missing the course record by a mere 1.5 minutes. His victory came after a successful race with no breakdowns, technical glitches, or mishaps, despite a shifting malfunction at the first pass during the Ötztaler Radmarathon 2024, which had initially caused him to abandon his hopes of victory.

Meanwhile, Janine Meyer continued her dominance in the women's category, winning the race for the third consecutive year. Meyer's time of 7:22.32.4 not only secured her another victory but also set an outstanding record among women, four minutes under her record from the previous year. Her time would have placed her in the top 100 among men.

The Ötztaler Radmarathon, a well-known cycling event, registered a total of 25,000 participants this year. The race, which has been held since 1979, continues to attract cycling enthusiasts from around the world, offering a challenging and exhilarating experience in the picturesque Austrian Alps.
