Cyclists pedaled 36,000-mile journey, advocating for the Gospel of Life in 'Biking for Babies' event
In the heart of Providence, Rhode Island, the Mother of Life Center is making a significant impact on the lives of pregnant women in need, thanks in part to the efforts of a dedicated cyclist named Amanda Nolan.
Amanda, a 30-something from the Boston area, is a novice biker who was introduced to Biking for Babies by her mom. This organisation, founded in 2009, has a twofold mission: to strengthen the spiritual lives of the riders and to spread the pro-life message, while raising awareness of the tangible aid pregnancy resource centers like the Mother of Life Center provide.
Amanda is contemplating a six-day, 600-mile bike ride to fundraise for the Mother of Life Center. Her commitment has not gone unnoticed. Richard Lafond, the communications and development facilitator at the center, praised her efforts, stating that Biking for Babies provides a strong Christian witness.
The bike ride, part of the Biking for Babies organisation, is no easy feat. Cyclists demonstrate resilience and perseverance, cycling long distances and waking up early the next day to continue their journey. They receive spiritual and physical coaching before embarking on their journey.
The Mother of Life Center uses funds received from Biking for Babies for operational costs and to purchase more expensive baby items like strollers and car seats, in addition to onesies, diapers, and bottles. Each rider's partner pregnancy center receives more than $4,000 on average.
Amanda is not alone in her efforts. In 2024, she supported the organization "Care Net," a network of 158 pregnancy help centers in the United States, by participating in a similar cycling event. This event raised a total of 2.03 million USD for these centers.
Amanda found support for her bike ride from people who were not initially expected to support a pro-life mission, as they understood the goal was to help women have real choices. Bikers sleep in churches, host families' homes, or pregnancy resource centers during their journey.
Nikki Biese, the executive director of Biking for Babies, is moved by the sight of young adults coming up the road in Biking for Babies jerseys. She sees it as a testament to the grace of God working within them. The demand for services at the Mother of Life Center is high, and they aim to serve as many people as possible.
The organisation hopes to recruit more riders next year to support more centers. If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding experience, consider joining Biking for Babies and making a difference in the lives of pregnant women across the United States.
