Daesh-suspected terror assault in Izmir, Turkey, results in the loss of 2 police officers' lives

In a shocking turn of events, a 16-year-old individual, identified as E.B., carried out a rifle attack on the Salih Isgoren Police Station in Izmir's Balcova district. The incident, marked as the first of its kind in Turkey, left two police officers dead and four others wounded.

The clash took place on the same street where E.B. resides. The attacker used a pump-action rifle, a weapon that was purchased by his father 10 years ago. According to reports, E.B. was wounded during the confrontation and was captured at the scene.

Social media posts allegedly belonging to E.B. indicate sympathies for the Daesh terrorist organization. However, it's essential to note that there is no confirmed evidence that he was an official member of the group. Security analysts suggest the attack may be claimed by Daesh, but have not yet determined whether E.B. had direct links with Daesh or local pro-Daesh communities.

A civilian was lightly wounded in the hand during the clash. Two police officers were taken to the hospital for treatment. Contrary to earlier reports, E.B. did not die at the hospital where he was receiving treatment. He is currently receiving treatment at Alsancak State Hospital.

Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor Ali Yeldan confirmed the casualties at the scene, stating that there are two martyrs and around six wounded. President Erdogan expressed condolences for the martyrdom of Police Chief Inspector Aydemir and Police Officer Akin, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured officers.

It's important to highlight that E.B. did not come to the station to file a complaint about domestic violence, as earlier reports suggested. Moreover, there is no UYAP record, no criminal record, or previous statement for the attacker.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing from multiple angles. The community remains on edge, hoping for a swift resolution and a return to peace and safety.
