Damage is being done to elevators at the Kransand shopping center by vandals
The popular Kransand leisure area in Mainz-Kastel is currently facing an unfortunate setback, with the elevator system being out of service due to vandalism. The incident occurred on August 22, 2022, marking the second attack on the project this year.
The elevator, opened last year as a barrier-free connection to the Rhine shore, is a significant relief for people with strollers, wheelchairs, or heavy bags, as it connects the popular leisure area with the traffic hub at the bridgehead.
The damage includes destroyed doors, damaged sensors, and blocked technology. The repair costs are estimated to be in the five-digit range, and the repair is expected to take twelve weeks.
This is not the first attack on the project. A similar incident occurred in June 2022, with repair costs of around 6,000 euros. Urban planners presented the first results of plans to make Kastel's West more attractive on May 11, 2022. The leisure area "Am Kransand" was officially opened by Wiesbaden's Economic Development Director Christiane Hinninger on December 14, 2022.
