The 2026 World Cup qualification phase via UEFA continued with an exciting turn of events, as Denmark secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Greece on Tuesday.
In the clash between the two teams, Morten Hjulmand (Sporting), Victor Froholdt (FC Porto), Vangelis Pavlidis (Benfica), Georgios Vagiannidis, and Fotis Ioannidis (Sporting) took to the field. The opening goal for Denmark was scored by Mikkel Damsgaard at the 32nd minute, assisted by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Rasmus Hojlund added the final goal for the Danish team at an unspecified time, while Andreas Christensen scored the second goal for Denmark at the 62nd minute, benefiting from a pass by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Elsewhere in Group L, Croatia maintained their leading position after defeating Montenegro 4-0, tying them with the Czech Republic at the top with 12 points. The Faroe Islands managed a narrow 0-1 victory over Gibraltar, moving them six points behind Croatia and the Czech Republic, who currently occupy the first and second positions respectively. Gibraltar remains at the bottom of the group without any points added to their tally.
In Group B, Kosovo pulled off a surprising 2-0 win over Sweden, a result that has shaken up the standings. Kosovo now has three points, while Sweden and Slovenia have one point each. Switzerland, on the other hand, took over the lead with a 3-0 victory against Slovenia, giving them six points.
Meanwhile, in other matches, Belgium defeated Kazakhstan at home, and Poland beat Finland. Italy and Israel played out a thrilling 4-5 victory for Italy in Group I, with both teams now having nine points. Norway leads Group I with 12 points, followed by Italy and Israel.
The game between Belarus and Scotland ended in a 0-2 victory for Scotland, while Germany drew with Northern Ireland. It's worth noting that Viktor Gyokeres played the full game for Sweden in the match against Kosovo, but Samuel Dahl, Benfica's defender, did not feature in the Kosovo vs Sweden game.
