Daring Deliverance: Army Trainee and Father Successfully Rescue Individual in New York's Uplands
In a heartwarming display of courage and quick thinking, Army Cadet Larry Pickett Jr. found himself in the midst of a dramatic rescue on Route 9W near West Point just after midnight on Sunday.
The scene was a white sedan that had smashed into a utility pole, with the driver still buckled into his seatbelt and the vehicle in danger of catching fire. Larry, who had played in Army's football season opener against Tarleton State the previous day, sprang into action.
His father, Larry Pickett Sr., and Larry Pickett Jr.'s friend, Larry Pickett Jr., also joined the rescue effort. Together, they managed to pull the driver from the wreckage, an act that was captured on video by Larry's sister, Lauren.
Their heroic actions did not go unnoticed. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll praised Larry Pickett Jr., stating that he embodies the highest values of the Army and West Point. The U.S. Military Academy also commended the trio for their actions.
The rescued driver was later identified as Cadet James Metcalf, who was honored for his quick, heroic act. This incident has drawn national praise, with many hailing Larry Pickett Jr. as a true hero.
