Bottrop-Gladbeck Cycling Priority Route: Construction Plans Progressing
The Bottrop-Gladbeck cycling priority route, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing local mobility and ensuring greater safety for cyclists, is moving forward with construction plans.
The first section of the route, spanning 2.850 meters from Bahnhofstraße in Bottrop to the Boye Bridge at the Gladbeck city border, is set to be completed by the end of 2027. The decision to fund this section, amounting to €5,172,000, was recently approved by the District Government of Münster.
The funding for the project will primarily come from federal funds from the "Stadt und Land" special program, with around 90% of the funds allocated, and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia contributing around 5% within the framework of the funding directive for local mobility (FoRi-Nah).
The start of construction for this section was originally scheduled for 2023 but has been postponed due to land acquisition issues. However, the start of work for the first section is now planned for this year.
Along the route, 50-centimeter-wide shoulders made of ballast will be created on both sides, serving ecological functions and providing habitat. On the Gladbeck side, a direct continuation of the route is planned.
The first section of the cycling priority route will be equipped with roadside solar lights for safe use even in the evening and night hours. The entire path will be expanded as a 4-meter-wide asphalt surface for cycling and pedestrian traffic, with 50-centimeter-wide shoulders on either side.
The implementation of the Bottrop-Gladbeck cycling priority route will be carried out in four construction phases. The completion of the entire measure is now scheduled for 2030.
President Andreas Bothe has handed over the funding approval for the first section to Mayor Bernd Tischler, marking a significant step forward in the realization of this much-anticipated project. The Bottrop-Gladbeck cycling priority route is set to significantly strengthen local mobility and ensure greater safety and comfort for all cyclists.
